Saint Mary’s College was well-represented at this year’s meeting of the MAA Golden Section, hosted by UC Davis on February

Maryam Mirzakhani, Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University and the only woman to win a Fields Medal, passed away on July 14th after a long battle with cancer. More information about Professor Mirzakhani’s life and accomplishments can be found in her obituary by the American Mathematical Society.

Michel Milinkovitch, Professor of Genetics and Evolution at the University of Geneva has discovered that the color of the scales of an ocellated lizard behave like a cellular automaton. His results were published in Nature. Read more in The New York Times.
