RIP Brother Brendan

Br. Brendan Kneale, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Saint Mary’s College, passed away this morning at Mont La Salle, in Napa, just shy of his 99th birthday. Br. Brendan graduated from Saint Mary’s in 1940, and then returned as a member of the faculty in 1949. Aside from his positions as Associate Professor and Chair of the Math Department, Br. Brendan also served as the Director of the Integral Program and the Interim Dean of Arts. He was also responsible for planting many of the trees on campus — mostly redwoods.

Br. Brendan retired from Saint Mary’s in 1995, and moved to Mont La Salle, where he became archivist and editor of the Newsletter. He formally retired in 2012. Br. Raphael wrote a touching eulogy for Br. Brendan, which can be read here.
