Kathy Porter is a Professor of Mathematics whose commitment to academic integrity and rigor has benefitted her own department and Saint Mary’s College as a whole.
While at Saint Mary’s, she was chair of the UEPC for three years, chair of the math department for three years, director of math placement for four years, coordinator and author of the math subject matter preparation program for 15 years, served on the governing board of the Liberal and Civic Studies program for 17 years, and was the director of Liberal and Civic Studies for three years. She developed the current Math 4+1 Secondary program and authored texts on both the CSET and CBEST exams.
Also during her time at Saint Mary’s, Professor Porter has published around 15 refereed articles in the area of topology, organized several national and international conferences on topology, and presented her work at dozens of local, sectional, national, and international meetings. She’s taught and positively impacted thousands of students, including Mahershala Ali, Matthew Dellavadova, and many others who may be less famous, but no less fortunate for having the opportunity to learn with Professor Porter. Kathy is our tower of strength.
