Pi Day, celebrated each year on March 14th, is an international holiday which pays tribute to the most well-known irrational number: π = 3.14159…
Traditionally, the Mathematics & Computer Science Department organizes fun pi-related activities for both professors and students across campus to enjoy. Participants are typically invited to eat pi(e), compete in Pi Trivia or the Pi Memorization Contest, solve pi-themed puzzles, approximate pi using fun hands-on activities, attend a screening of “Pi” (the movie), or pi(e) their favorite professor! The Department has even celebrated Pi Day at the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
